O Paris Saint Germain (PSG) dropped behind for a place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The French team was defeated by Bayern Munchen at home this Friday afternoon, by 1 to 0, in a duel in the Princes Park. The only goal of the match was scored by Coman, in a move that was missed by Donnaruma.
This is a script already known to both teams, since in the final of the competition in 2019/20, the same player decided the game played between them, at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.
On the field, the Bavarians were far superior and managed to neutralize the actions of Messi and Neymar in the first half. Mbappé, returning from injury, started the duel on the bench and only went to the field in the final stage, but failed to change the scoreboard. He even found the net twice, but both goals were disallowed for offside.
PSG will now have just over three weeks to prepare and try to change the history of the confrontation. The teams will meet again on March 8, a Wednesday, again at 5 pm (Brasília time), at the Allianz Arena.
Before, Christophe Galtier’s team faces Lille, for French Championship, at 9 am next Sunday. Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann’s charges visit Borussia Monchengladbach, at German Championshipat 11:30 am this Saturday.
Pressure from Bayern, but no goals…
Bayern Munich tried hard, but the first half had no goals. With suffocating pressure, the Bavarians advanced their marking and prevented Messi and Neymar from even touching the ball in the opening minutes.
The first clear chance of scoring, however, only appeared in the 26th minute. Musiala was triggered by Pavard, inside the area, but at the moment of the kick he was disarmed by Sergio Ramos. Shortly afterwards, it was Choupo-Moting’s turn to be dangerous with a header that left Donnaruma’s posts.
At 42, Bayern scared with Kimmich, in what was the best opportunity of the first stage. The midfielder took the lead at the edge of the area and hit hard, but Donnaruma jumped in to make the save. PSG, on the other hand, without solutions to counterattack, did not finish Sommer’s goal once.
Coman enforces the ex’s law
Contrary to what happened in the first half of the game, it was the Parisian team who opened the works on the way back from the break. Just after four minutes, the Zaire-Emery boy turned on the marking, advanced on the right and crossed low for Neymar, who stretched out, but was unable to reach.
At seven, however, Bayern opened the scoring. Davies crossed the second post and Coman appeared alone to play low, with the collaboration of goalkeeper Donnaruma, who let the ball pass under his arms.
The Bavarians continued on top and produced two new chances with Choupo-Moting, in the 16th and 17th minutes. The first one stopped in the hands of Donnaruma, while, in the other, the Cameroonian hit the post.
At 27, Neymar had plenty of time in the area and took chances twice. In the second, Mbappé took the rebound and completed it for the goal, but he was in an advanced position. About ten minutes later, the Brazilian launched Nuno Mendes, who crossed into the middle of the area and found Mbappé, who swelled the net. Once again, however, the goal was disallowed for offside.
Then, at 38 minutes, Nuno Mendes made another move on the left and launched Messi, who was blocked at the time of the kick. Already in the additions, the Argentine tried to advance close to the area and provoked the expulsion of Pavard, who is out of the return game.
