Britain decided to boycott the women’s world boxing championship because of the participation of the Russians with the flag and anthem
Representatives of the UK decided to boycott the women’s world championship (WCH) in boxing. This was reported on the website of the country’s Boxing Federation.
“The decision reflects ongoing concerns about the future of boxing in the Olympic program and the recent decision by the International Boxing Association (IBA) to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete with national symbols,” the statement said.
The Women’s World Championship will be held in New Delhi from 15 to 25 March. Earlier, the US Boxing Federation, the Irish Boxing Association and the Czech Boxing Association announced their refusal to participate in the men’s and women’s world championships. The reason was that the Russians were allowed to compete with the flag and the anthem.
The admission of Russian athletes to international tournaments under the auspices of the IBA became known on October 5. “The IBA strongly believes that politics should not have any impact on the sport. Therefore, all athletes should be given equal conditions, ”the organization said in a statement.
