It was before the start of the Colombian league game Deportes Tolima – Millonaros FC. As the match was about to start, one of the hooligans ran onto the pitch from the stands. He behaved outrageously, because he attacked 31-year-old Daniel Catano, a midfielder of the Millonaros FC team, who was still doing stretching exercises at the time.
The fan attacked the footballer, and the same player administered justice
The hooligan hit the player on the head. He immediately tried to escape. However, he was unlucky, because the player reacted quickly and started running after him. The footballer quickly caught up with him and, without waiting for the intervention of security, administered justice himself. Catano, after catching the bandit, hit him and knocked him to the ground.
Why did the fan attack the player? Perhaps because Catano played for the team from Tolima in 2018-2022. Catano got a red card from the referee. His team was furious with this penalty and decided to leave the field. The match did not start and was eventually postponed. A new date for the match has not yet been announced.
According to media reports, the visitors’ players were negotiating to restart the match, but they wanted Catano’s red card to be dismissed and the player to play. The judge, however, refused. As a result, the guests refused to play and explained that they did it for security reasons.
“The safety of the coaching staff and players is above all. We need to set a precedent for us to educate ourselves as a society. We have to look after each other,” said David Silva, captain of Millonaros FC.
However, this is not the end of the story. Cesar Camargo, president of Deportes Tolima, was unexpectedly angry with the players of Millonaros FC for leaving the pitch prematurely and not wanting to continue playing.
“The fans are out of control and will have to be brought to justice. However, the withdrawal of the team from the field is a boycott of the game and the sport. It’s not worth putting pressure on us like this,” said Cesar Camargo.
Marca: Football in Colombia is what it is. Just because of leaders like him
The president’s words were strongly criticized by journalists of the Spanish daily “Marca”. – What? How? Sorry! Really, it’s unthinkable that a person who cares more about collecting money and three points on the desk should be the president of a professional football club. That’s why football in Colombia is what it is. It is because of leaders like him, experts write.
What a sick society. What happened in the match is a scandal on a large scale because of the number of errors that occurred as a result of the aggression against Daniel Catano.
Journalists also criticize referee Wilmar Roldan for showing a red card.
Roldan took the red card out of his pocket without thinking or checking beforehand whether the safety conditions for playing the match were met. It is unthinkable that they finally punished the player and not others. Miraculously, there were no brawls in the stands, which could have been caused by the large number of Millonarios fans who came, write Spanish journalists.
After three rounds, Deportes Tolima is with four points in ninth place in the table. Right behind him is the Millonaros FC team, which played only one game and won it (3:2 away at Deportivo Pereira). He leads Boyac Chico with a three-fight win streak.
