River Plate will be investigated for overcrowding at the reopening of the Monumental de Núñez

After renovations to increase the capacity of the stadium, the River Plate returned to play at Monumental de Núñez this Sunday. However, according to the newspaper oléthe club will be investigated for excessive attendance in the match against Argentinos Juniors.

The Buenos Aires Public Prosecutor’s Office is analyzing whether River Plate omitted the collection of the game due to alleged overcrowding at the stadium. If accused, the team may have to pay around 50,000 pesos (R$ 1,300 at current prices) for the infractions.

Despite the investigation, the Monumental does not run the risk of being closed as no irregularities were found in the structure of the site. Recently, Boca Juniors had two sectors of its stadium banned due to security risks.

According to River Plate, more than 83,000 fans attended the reopening of the Monumental. With the attendance of the 2-1 victory against Argentinos Juniors, it is estimated that the stadium became the largest in South America after the renovations.
