Real Madrid won the Club World Cup in Morocco, beating Saudi Al-Hilal 5-3 in the final thanks to two goals from Vinicius Jr., Fede Valverde and a goal from Karim Benzema. Thus, Carlo Ancelotti’s team won their second trophy of the season after the UEFA Super Cup when Real Madrid won 2-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt. At the same time, the Madrid team is the most successful team in the history of KMŚ, as they won the trophy in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2023.
Karim Benzema overtook the Real Madrid legend. He may have the most trophies in the history of the club
Winning the Club World Cup final was also special for Karim Benzema. The French striker has won 24 trophies since joining Real Madrid in July 2009 – the collection comprises five Champions League trophies, five UEFA Champions League trophies, four Spanish Championships and Super Cups, four UEFA Super Cups and two Spanish Cups. At the same time, Karim Benzema overtook club legend Paco Gento, who won 23 trophies between 1953 and 1971.
Karim Benzema is the second most decorated footballer in the history of Real Madrid. Only the Brazilian Marcelo, who played in the Spanish capital from 2006 to 2022, has more trophies than him and won six Spanish league titles, five Champions League cups, five Spanish Super Cups, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and two Spanish Cups. It is worth noting that Nacho and Luka Modrić are close to equaling Paco Gento’s feat with 22 trophies in their collection.
Will Karim Benzema stay at Real Madrid? The French striker’s contract expires at the end of this season and the two sides have not yet entered into negotiations on a new deal. Nevertheless, Benzema, if you are the owner of the Ballon d’Or – Luka Modric took advantage of it earlier.
Karim Benzema will have a chance to match or surpass Marcelo’s tally later this season. Real Madrid are still in the race for the Spanish league, Champions League and Copa del Rey. It won’t be easy though. In La Liga, they have to make up for the loss to the leading FC Barcelona (loss of 11 points and one game overdue). The team with Robert Lewandowski in the squad is also Real’s rival in the semi-final of the domestic cup, and in the 1/8 final of the Champions League it is Liverpool.
Karim Benzema has made 22 appearances this season, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists.
