IOC member Guy Drew says there are no reasons to exclude Russians from the 2024 Olympics

Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Guy Drew explained the validity of the admission of Russian athletes to tournaments. His words are quoted by Franceinfo.

Drew said there was no reason to exclude Russians from the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The IOC member stressed that athletes should not suffer because of the political decisions of the leadership of their countries. In his opinion, the participation of athletes in competitions should not be a consequence of what is happening in the world.

On February 12, the head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, criticized the interference of politicians in the discussion on the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. Prior to this, a number of European countries spoke out against the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international tournaments, and Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Pavel Yablonsky called for a boycott of the Olympics if domestic athletes were admitted.

The IOC is considering the possibility of admitting Russians to the 2024 Games in a neutral status, but there is no final decision on this issue. Competitions in Paris should be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
