Ron Flowers, a member of England’s 1966 World Cup squad, died aged 87, his former club Wolverhampton announced on Friday.
“We are deeply shocked to announce the death of Ron Flowers, vice president and legend of the club,” declared the Wolves on their website.

The midfielder, “a giant on the field”, helped his club win three English champion titles, in 1954, 1958 and 1959.
Flowers played 49 games for England. In 1966, chosen by Alf Ramsey, he did not participate in the field of the English victory at home, but was rewarded with the champion medal in 2009.
