Kate del Castillo to star in ‘A Beautiful Lie’, a modern adaptation of Leon Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina

Del Castillo will give life in this new series to Anna Montes de Oca, a Mexican diver and star in her country who falls in love with a young musician.

Kate del Castillo will star in and produce A Beautiful Lie, a series that reinterprets and brings to the contemporary world the story of Anna Karenina, of Leon Tolstoy.

Pantaya, Endemol Shine Boomdog and Cholawood Productions are behind this television project that will have six episodes and that follows in the footsteps of The Beautiful Lie (2015), an Australian series that updated the plot of Anna Karenina.

The Beautiful Lie counted as a co-star with Sarah Snook, which is now triumphing with the foul and brilliant Succession the HBO.

Those responsible for A Beautiful Lie, which will begin filming at the beginning of 2022, they explained yesterday in a statement that Del Castillo will give life in this new series to Anna Montes de Oca, a Mexican diver and star in her country who falls in love with a young musician.

“This is a project that I am passionate about,” said the Mexican actress.

“Reinterpreting a classic like ‘Anna Karenina’ is a huge responsibility and our intention is to do it justice. We will be telling a story with very strong female characters where infidelity is an important component. But we will also address various issues, from mental health -including postpartum depression – to the sometimes disastrous impact that social media can have, “she added.

The Spanish scriptwriters Almudena Ocaña and Aurora Graciá Tortosa will be in charge of writing A Beautiful Lie. (E)
