UFC Champion Islam Makhachev Receives Promotion Award for Best Submission of the Year
Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev received the Submission of the Year award. This was reported on the official website of the organization.
The promotion awarded the Russian this award for an early victory in a duel with the Brazilian Charles Oliveira. “I finished off the most dangerous guy on the ground – I knew my skills and told the press, everyone around me that I was going to strangle him. On February 12, Makhachev will fight with Australian Alexander Volkanovski, who currently tops the list of the best fighters in the promotion, regardless of weight categories. The fight will take place in Australia at UFC 284. Thus, Makhachev will defend the UFC championship belt for the first time.
On October 23, Makhachev turned out to be stronger than Oliveira at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The 31-year-old Russian defeated his opponent with a choke hold and became the organization’s lightweight champion.
In total, Makhachev has 23 victories and one defeat. Oliveira has 33 wins and nine losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
