At a press conference at the FMF’s Centro de Alto Rendimento, in the south of Mexico City, Ares de Parga explained that five candidates were interviewed in the process of choosing the new coach of ‘Tri’.
The requirements that Cocca met were four: knowledge of Mexican football, knowledge of the characteristics of the Mexican player, proper group management and experience and achievements.
Born in Buenos Aires on February 11, 1972, Diego Cocca is the 45th coach in the history of the Mexican national team (including five caretakers and one substitute) since 1923, and the fifth Argentine.
Cocca replaces compatriot Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, who failed to take Mexico to the last 16 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
