The US military today shot down a balloon that was seen in the sky over Alaska. This was stated by the representative of the White House National Security Council John Kirby.

According to him, the US military department in the past 24 hours tracked an object at high altitude over the state of Alaska, which flew at an altitude of about 12 km. The facility, Kirby said, posed a safety hazard to civilian flights.

On the recommendation of the Pentagon, US President Joe Biden ordered the military to shoot down the object, and they did, the White House spokesman explained.

At the same time, the United States does not yet know who owned this air object.

Earlier, we recall, a Chinese balloon was discovered in the sky over the United States. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the balloon is civilian and is used for scientific purposes. However, the US military eventually shot down a balloon flying through their territory. In the United States, the device was considered intelligence.

The appearance of the Chinese balloon led to a diplomatic row between the two countries.
