The Minister of Sports of Lithuania announced the creation of a group of 35 countries that are opposed to Russia’s participation in the Olympics
Lithuanian Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Syugzhdinene announced the creation of a group of 35 countries opposing the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. It is reported by Reuters.
According to her, these states include France, Japan, Great Britain, the USA and Germany. “We expect that we will not need a boycott, since all countries spoke unanimously,” Syugzhdinene said.
Earlier, the Minister of Sports of Poland, Kamil Bortnichuk, proposed the creation of a “team of refugees”, which would include Belarusian and Russian “dissidents” at the Olympic Games.
On January 26, the President of the NOC of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that the Ukrainian team could miss the Olympics in Paris if the teams of Russia and Belarus participate in it. A day earlier, the IOC noted that they were considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions of athletes from these countries.
