A special weekend awaits us in the Ski Jumping World Cup. The competition from Friday to Sunday will take place at the Mackenzie Intervale facility in Lake Placid, USA. This is the first competition of this rank in the United States in 19 years and the first in this city in almost 33 years.
The Ski Jumping World Cup returns to the USA. Lake Placid waited 33 years
The last time the world’s top ski jumpers appeared in the USA was in 2004. At that time, they jumped at the Olympic complex in Park City. The same on which Adam Małysz won silver and bronze at the 2002 Winter Olympics. This time the World Cup will be hosted on another Olympic hill – in Lake Placid, New York. The famous American winter sports center hosted Olympic athletes twice – the first time in 1932 and again in 1980.
Lake Placid had been waiting for the return of the world elite of ski jumping since December 1990. Then the competitions were won by Austrian Andreas Felder and German Andre Kiesewetter. Now the clear favorite will be the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud, who triumphed in the previous four competitions in a row. His plans will be thwarted by Dawid Kubacki, who has to make up for his 238-point loss in the general classification.

But first you have to go through Friday’s qualifying. Together with him, five other White and Reds will join them. Coach Thomas Thurnbichler took with him Piotr ¯y³a, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Paweł Wąsk, Jan Habdas and Tomasz Pilch. The last two replaced Kamil Stoch and Jakub Wolny in the team. Both did poorly last weekend in Willingen.
