The Minister of Sports of Poland proposed to create a team of refugees from Russians to participate in the Olympic Games 2024
Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk spoke about the possible admission of Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The functionary suggested creating a team of refugees from representatives of these countries. “I draw attention to the fact that the neutrality of Russian sports is a fiction, that there are no institutions in Russia that are independent of authoritarian or totalitarian power,” Bortnichuk said.
The minister considered that such a step would help to avoid accusations of discrimination based on nationality. According to him, Russian and Belarusian dissidents will play in the refugee team.
On January 26, the President of the NOC of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that the Ukrainian team could miss the Olympics in Paris if the teams of Russia and Belarus participate in it. A day earlier, the IOC noted that they were considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions of athletes from these countries.
