With Richarlison among the nominees, FIFA announces finalists for the 2022 Puskas award; watch the goals

FIFA announced, this Friday, the finalists for the Puskas award, for the most beautiful goal of 2022. The Brazilian Richarlison is among the three nominees, along with Dimitri Payet and Marcin Oleksy.

The number 9 of the Selection is competing for the volley goal scored against Serbia, in the first round of the world Cup from Qatar. To FIFA’s website, Richarlison admitted that the bid was one of the most beautiful of his career so far.

“It was a very beautiful goal. I had already scored one of these for Fluminense and another similar one for Everton. I had the chance to score a volleyed goal again and I think it was one of the most beautiful goals of my career, because it was in the World Cup and in a difficult game for us”, he said.

Payet, one of Richarlison’s competitors, was nominated for the kick from outside the area against PAOK, in a match for the Conference League quarter-finals. The captain of Olympique de Marseille said that the move happened naturally.

“I did the kick casually, as if it were during training. I think that feeling of relaxation made the movement fluid. I couldn’t have hit it better”, he said.

The third candidate for the award is the Polish Marcin Oleksy, who plays for Warta Poznan. The athlete, who plays in amputee football, hit a beautiful volley in the duel against Stal Rzeszow. Olesky said the goal made him very proud.

“I hit it really well. It was pure. When I hit, I was following the ball with my eyes and saw it go into the corner of the net. I always wanted to score a beautiful goal. You could see how proud I was after I scored,” she said.

The award ceremony takes place on February 27 in Paris. In addition to the Puskas, FIFA will also announce the best men’s and women’s football players of the year 2022.
