Polish jumpers are already in Lake Placid, where they will fight for World Cup points in two individual competitions this weekend. They will also compete in duets. The organizers decided to give the jumpers the opportunity to get to know the facility better, so on Thursday they planned three additional training series. Poles did not participate in any of them. Thomas Thurnbichler explains it with fatigue after the trip to the USA.
Poles did not jump during training
Six Polish jumpers flew to Lake Placid: Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Paweł Wąsek, Tomasz Pilch and Jan Habdas. But none of them took part in Thursday’s training sessions on the hill.
Thomas Thurnbichler decided not to jump. He wanted his players to rest after the journey. The Poles flew to Lake Placid on Tuesday evening, while the competition set off on Monday.
“We have given up Thursday’s training session on the hill because we want to keep full strength until Sunday,” the coach told the media.
Our jumpers had additional, alternative training in Willingen, outside the hill. The Austrian did not want to stay in the US for too long.
– We stayed in Willingen because we didn’t want to stay too long in the US due to the time change. We took up alternative activities and light physical training in Willingen. We reached Lake Placid on Wednesday and we still have enough time to adapt to the conditions and start Saturday’s competition in optimal shape – said Thurnbichler in an interview with the portal skijumping.pl.
On Friday evening, Polish time, two training sessions and qualifications for Saturday’s competition in Lake Placid.
