Brazilian defender Marquinhos detonated his own team, the Paris Saint Germain (PSG), after the defeat by 2-1 to Olympique de Marseille that decreed the elimination in the round of 16 of the French Cup.
After the final whistle, the player, crestfallen, lamented “mistakes that cost dearly” to the Parisian team. He highlighted his commitment and that of his teammates to continue “working hard”, but said he feels “disgusted” with the setback.
“We made some mistakes that cost us dearly. We know what we need to improve. It’s a defeat that hurts even more because it’s a cup match against our great rivals. We wanted to return to Paris with a victory and the classification. We have to do better . It’s to keep working and move on”, he told the broadcaster France 3.
“It’s time to close our mouths. We know that we need to improve a lot if we want to do something good this season. A title that went away hurts. We are disgusted by this”, he added.
On the field, PSG went behind the scoreboard after the Chilean Alexis Sánchez scored a goal from the penalty spot, in the 31st minute of the opening stage. Defender Sergio Ramos equalized in stoppage time, but saw Malinovskyi put the Marseille club back in the lead after half-time.
Out of the French Cup, the team turns its attention to French Championship, where they face Monaco this Saturday, at 13h (Brasília time), as a visitor. The team of Neymar, Messi and co leads Ligue 1 with eight points ahead of Olympique.
Then, Paris Saint-Germain will have another decision ahead: the duel of the round of 16 of the Champions Leaguebefore the Bayern Munchen. The first leg is scheduled for next Tuesday, at 5 pm, at the Parc des Princes.
