The head of the IOC Bach said that the pressure of Ukraine on the organizers of the 2024 Olympics is regrettable
The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, reproached the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine for putting pressure on sports organizations regarding the admission of Russians to tournaments. His statement is quoted by Reuters.
“A letter to your NOC colleagues, International Federations, IOC members and future organizers of the Olympic Games, putting pressure on them in an attempt to publicly influence their decision-making, was perceived by the vast majority of them as something to say the least extremely regrettable,” he said. . Bach added that every NOC has an obligation to abide by the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter, and a boycott would violate them.
On January 26, the President of the NOC of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that the Ukrainian team could miss the Olympics in Paris if the teams of Russia and Belarus participate in it. A day earlier, the IOC noted that they were considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions of athletes from these countries.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
