Other countries follow the example of Poland. “Unwavering support”

These are the next countries that have reacted to the recent statement of the IOC. The latter did not exclude the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to the Summer Olympic Games under certain conditions. Two of them were starts under a neutral flag and without national anthems.

Ukraine reacted the fastest to the statement and announced that its athletes would not start in Paris if Russians and Belarusians were allowed to compete. Poland, Latvia and Estonia acted in the same way. The Minister of Sport – Kamil Bortniczuk – appealed to as many as 40 countries to form a coalition in this matter.

. – As long as the war and Russian aggression in Ukraine lasts, I cannot imagine the presence of athletes from this country in Paris. It is unthinkable that they would parade as if nothing had happened and have a team at the Olympics when bombs are still falling on Ukraine, she said on Tuesday.

Nordic countries also oppose Russia at the Olympics

Now the Nordic countries have joined the slowly forming coalition. The Olympic Committees of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland wrote a joint letter to the IOC. “This is not the right time to consider the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competition,” we read.

“We reaffirm our steadfast support for the Ukrainian people and unwaveringly demand peace. The situation with the war in Ukraine has not changed, so for now it is not the time to consider the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus.”

The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will run from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
