The surgeon Shestakov called the amputation of Kostomarov’s feet necessary due to the release of toxins
Surgeon Andrei Shestakov named the reason for the amputation of the feet of the Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov. His words are quoted by Izvestia.
“After sepsis, purulent foci begin to “fly” through the body, inseminating everything. The same process went through the circulatory system, a weaker spot reacted, ”Shestakov said. He emphasized that necrosis on the leg catastrophically increases the release of toxins into the body, so it was necessary to stop their spread.
On February 7, it became known that both feet were amputated to Kostomarov. It was noted that the general condition of the skater is improving, but he is still in intensive care. Doctors said that there is a struggle to save the hands of the patient.
A day earlier, it became known that gangrene began to progress in Kostomarov. It was noted that the athlete was affected by most of the leg, necrosis of the foot and sepsis developed. Doctors insisted on amputation of the leg to the knee to prevent further development of the infection.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B.
