Zhurova called the call of the mayor of Paris to speak to the Russians at the Olympic Games-2024 for refugees as a kindergarten
Olympic speed skating champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova responded to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, who called on Russian athletes to compete at the 2024 Olympics for refugees. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
Zhurova said that the politician specifically tried to bring the Russians into the category of refugees. In her opinion, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should ban all national symbols at the Olympics in Paris. “Let the best of the best come and compete,” the deputy considered, calling the bans a kindergarten.
Earlier, on February 7, Hidalgo said that she was against the speech of the Russians in a neutral status. Prior to that, she said that athletes should not be deprived of the opportunity to compete.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. Athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will have a chance to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
