Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov had both feet amputated. This was reported by TASS, citing a source familiar with the situation.
According to the publication, now Kostomarov is conscious. The general condition of the former 45-year-old skater is improving, but he is still in intensive care. “The operation went without incident, in general, the body is on the mend. Now there is a struggle for hands, ”added the agency.
On February 6, it became known that gangrene began to progress in Kostomarov. It was noted that the athlete was affected by most of the leg, necrosis of the foot and sepsis developed. Doctors insisted on amputating the leg to the knee to prevent further infection.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B.
