– Virtually everyone cheats. Virtually everyone cheats, so I have to accept that, otherwise I wouldn’t stand a chance. Action should have been taken earlier. Now the controllers are powerless, otherwise they would have to disqualify half of the starting list – said the anonymous jumper in a recent interview with the Swiss daily “Blick”. It is known that he participated in the World Cup competitions on the Austrian mammoth Kulm. His opinion met with criticism from the ski jumping community, e.g. in Germany.
The jumpers criticize the anonymous rival
The statements of the anonymous jumper definitely hurt many people related to ski jumping, coaches and competitors. Especially those who often look for technological innovations, use the latest solutions to gain an advantage over the competition. Matters with equipment are often discussed in the context of the German ski jumping team. They openly criticized the anonymous player, and consider his opinions to be a misunderstanding.
– I think that’s a very bold statement. It is a competitive sport where everyone tries to push themselves to the limit. In my opinion, the controls are 100 times better than last season. This jumper should focus on sport, said Andreas Wellinger, quoted by Sport.de.
According to Karl Geiger, controllers should not be criticized for their work. They must comply with the regulations and must not exceed their competence.
– It’s always a difficult topic. Such a jumpsuit adapts to your body. I think the controllers have guidelines they follow and I wouldn’t say that’s abnormal in any way.
This season, the Austrian Christian Kathol is responsible for the equipment checks, who replaced the Finn Mika Jukkara in May last year. Markus Eisenbichler also defends him.
– Checks equipment very well. I convinced myself of it. If the suit is actually too big, he measures it and you’re out. It doesn’t always disqualify you right away, it’s fair. It’s about sport here,” admitted Eisenbichler.
An anonymous jumper bent the rules himself during the World Cup competitions in Austria, his suit was too big. Despite this, he passed equipment inspections without any problems and was allowed to compete, and after his jumps he avoided subsequent inspections.
Eisenbichler points out who could have been the “mole”
According to Eisenbichler, the anonymous jumper could have been one of the Swiss. Four of them took part in the competition in Bad Mitterndorf – Simon Ammann, Gregor Deschwanden, Kilian Peier and Dominik Peter.
“The Swiss colleague who said that should concentrate on the most important thing,” he concluded.
The next World Cup competition will be held on February 11-12 at the hill in Lake Placid, USA.
