Two won WTA 125 tournaments, the first round of the US Open in 2021 – these are the greatest successes of Alycia Parks in her career, which was ranked 75th in the WTA ranking. This did not prevent the little-known American from surprising the whole tennis world during the WTA 250 in Lyon. The American won four matches, including two against higher-seeded rivals, and sensationally reached the final. In it, she faced the great favorite Caroline Garcia (5th WTA).

Garcia is a respected tennis player who played in the semi-finals of the US Open a few months ago. The Frenchwoman, supported by the local audience, was to break the lower ranked competitor. The beginning of the match, however, gave the answer that Parks would set difficult conditions for the titled rival.

It was the same in the second set. Both tennis players won their serve, although Garcia had two chances to break the opponent. In both cases she failed and in the decisive phase of the set Parks won 6:5 and finally broke the more experienced rival.
The 22-year-old Parks presented in this meeting what she had previously known to the tennis audience, i.e. a very good serve. She served 15 aces throughout the game. The current women’s aces record in a two-set match is held by Sabine Lisicki. The German in 2015 in the match against Belinda Bencic in the tournament in Birmingham had 27 aces.
