UFC chief White says McGregor vs Chandler fight will take place at welterweight
The President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, spoke about the details of the next fight of the Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor. His words are quoted by The Ringer MMA Show.
The head of the promotion said that McGregor’s fight against American Michael Chandler is scheduled for the third quarter of the year and is likely to take place in September. “We talked about the weight category. And we decided that the fight would take place in the welterweight division,” he added.
The fact that McGregor will fight with Chandler, it became known on February 4th. White said that the fighters were called to the positions of trainers in the reality show The Ultimate Fighter 31, and in the season finale they should converge in the octagon.
McGregor last fought in the summer of 2021, losing to American Dustin Poirier by technical knockout. The Irishman suffered a broken leg, from which he is still recovering. In his professional career, he spent 28 fights, scoring 22 victories and suffering six defeats.
