Latvian figure skater Vasiliev said that the European Championship was more interesting without the Russians
Latvian figure skater Denis Vasiliev commented on the absence of Russian athletes at international tournaments. His words are reported by Sportacentrs.
“The European Championship in Finland was a little different than usual. Due to the fact that there were no Russian athletes, it was more interesting from a sports point of view, ”said Vasiliev. He also noted that he does not support the return of Russian rivals to the competition.
At the European Championships 2022, Russian skaters won in all four events. The 2023 tournament was won by Frenchman Adam Xiao Him Fa, a sports couple from Italy Sarah Conti and Niccolò Machii, Italian dancers Charlene Gignard and Marco Fabbri, and Georgian Anastasia Gubanova, who previously competed for Russia.
On June 7, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) at the congress of the organization decided to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices. It will remain in effect until further notice.
