After penalties, Al-Hilal defeats Wydad Casablanca and will face Flamengo in the Club World Cup

In a match valid for the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup, Al-Hilal beat Wydad Casablanca 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 tie in time after 120 minutes. The confrontation took place this Saturday, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, in Rabat (Morocco).

The goals of the duel were scored by El Amloud and Kanno. On penalties, Musab converted the charge that gave the classification to the team. Vitor Pereira, coach of Flamengo, was in the stands watching the game.

With the victory, Al-Hilal will face the red-blacks in the semifinal of the competition. The duel between the club from Rio de Janeiro and the Saudis will take place next Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Ibn Batouta Stadium, in Tanger. Wydad already said goodbye to the tournament with the defeat.

The game

The first stage of the match was disputed, but without many clear chances. Wydad Casablanca even managed to open the scoring in the 18th minute, when Daoudi completed Bouhra’s cross into the back of the net. However, the flag correctly marked offside on the move.

In the second half, both teams attacked more to seek the advantage. And who did better was Wydad: After a corner kick, the ball reached the second post for El Amloud to head into the goal and open the scoring, in the sixth minute. The full-back had also saved a ball over the line a few moments earlier.

With the disadvantage, Al-Hilal began to fight for a draw. At 25 minutes, Ighalo had a golden chance when he received a pass over the top and came face-to-face with the goalkeeper. But at the end, Tagnaouti defended the attacker’s kick. On the rebound, Al Dawsari kicked for goal, but it was stopped by the defense.

However, in the 43rd minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Al-Hilal, after the ball hit Attiyat Allah’s arm. Kanno hit placed and tied the duel. Wydad defender and captain Yahya Jabrane was sent off for complaining.

The Saudis continued to press towards the end, but the game went into extra time. Right at the start of additional time, Kanno was expelled and also left Al-Hilal with one less. But even with the equal number of players on the field, Wydad was unable to react.

The great chance of extra time fell on Marega’s feet, in the 15th minute. The ball was left in the small area for the Al-Hilal striker, but the Malian finished over the crossbar.

With the score 1-1, the match went to penalties. Marega, Vietto, Al Shehri, Abdullah and Musab converted to Al-Hilal. Attiyat Allah lost to Wydad and gave the victory to the Saudis.
