ISU explained the absence of Shcherbakova among those invited to the award for security reasons
The International Skating Union (ISU) has explained why Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova is not among those invited to the 2022 awards ceremony. It is reported by TASS.
The ISU Council considered that nominees from Russia or Belarus would not personally participate in the awards ceremony for security reasons, which is in line with the organization’s policy. It is noted that they will be able to join the event virtually.
Shcherbakova was nominated for the Skating Awards in the Most Valuable Skater category. The Figure Skating Federation of Ukraine demanded to remove the athlete from the list of nominees. They called the presence of the Russian woman shameful.
In the 2021/2022 season, Shcherbakova won the individual victory at the Beijing Olympics, and also won silver at the European Championship. In addition to these awards, she also has the gold of the 2021 World Cup.
