Rodnina called a plus in a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympics by Poland

Rodnina said she would be happy with Poland’s boycott of the 2024 Olympics for political reasons

Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina called a plus in Poland’s possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by Vprognoze.

“I will be very happy if the Poles begin to boycott the Olympic Games for political reasons,” Rodnina said. She explained this by the fact that the country will miss the next two Olympics.

On February 3, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Yablonsky called for a boycott of the 2024 Olympics if Russians were admitted. He called it necessary pressure on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). According to the Polish side, 40 countries oppose the participation of Russians in tournaments.

On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments. After criticism from Ukraine and the Baltic states, the IOC said a final decision had not yet been made.

The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
