Half an hour late and a missed opportunity for Widzew. The decisive goal in the 90th minute

Pitek in the Ekstraklasa was marked by winter. Heavy snowfall led to the cancellation of the match in Płock, in which Wisła was supposed to face Warta Poznań. The meeting in Łódź, where Widzew hosted Jagiellonia Biaystok, would have had a similar fate. In the end, the snow stopped in Łódź at the right moment, which allowed the match organizers to restore the pitch to a usable condition, and the match itself only started with a 30-minute delay.

Widzew’s missed opportunity. He lost the victory against Jagiellonia in the 90th minute

Although in the first spring matches Widzew looked much better than Jagiellonia, on Friday evening the guests from Białystok entered the meeting better. Already in the 2nd minute of the game, the one-on-one situation after Marc Gual’s pass was not used by Tomas Prikryl, who lost the duel with Henrich Ravas, Widzew’s goalkeeper. Soon after, two shots from the vicinity of the penalty area were scored by Gual himself, but the first one was saved by Ravas, and the second missed the goal of the Łódź players by a meter.

With time, however, Widzew gained more and more advantage on the pitch. In the first minutes of the match, the inhabitants of Łódź could only afford a long-range shot by Mato Milos, which after a ricochet hit the side netting. In the 21st minute, however, the lack of a goal was decided by centimeters, when Łukasz Zjawiński’s header hit the post of Zlatan Alomerovic’s goal.

After half an hour of play, the guests had to manage not only without Jesus Imaz, but also Marc Gual, active in Łódź, who was kicked in the thigh by Serafin Szota and could not continue the game. In the 37th minute, Jagiellonia could also add a goal to Gual’s loss when, after Alomerovic’s foul on Bartłomiej Pawłowski, referee Paweł Raczkowski awarded Widzew a penalty kick. However, this was not used by Juliusz Letniowski, who only hit the crossbar.

The goalless first half, in which Widzew looked much better, ended with a good header by the visiting footballer Maciej Bortniczuk, who narrowly missed the home goal. Bortniczuk also started the second half with a shot, this time from 16 meters, but Ravas caught the ball with little problems.

The second 45 minutes were not as exciting as the first, and the match evened out. We had to wait 20 minutes for another dangerous attempt, but Bartłomiej Pawłowski’s flat shot from 20 meters did not surprise Zlatan Alomerovic.

It was only in the 78th minute that the hosts managed to open the score. This was done by substitute Dominik Kun, who got a good perpendicular pass from Ernest Terpiłowski a few minutes after entering the field and beat the goalkeeper of Jagiellonia with a shot on the ground in the long corner of the goal.

In the end, one could expect the attacks of the losing Jagiellonia, but in fact Widzew was still the more dangerous team. Nevertheless, unexpectedly in the 90th minute, the guests from Bialystok managed to equalize. After a cross from the depths of the field, Nene shot from the air from a few meters another substitute – Bartosz Bida, and the ball after bouncing off Martin Kreuzriegler fell into the hosts’ net.

In the very end, the surprised inhabitants of Łódź were looking for the winning goal, but attempts by Szota, Terpiłowski and Hansen did not find the way to Alomerovic’s goal. Finally, the match in Łódź between Widzew and Jagiellonia ended in a 1:1 draw. With 31 points, Widzew is third in the Ekstraklasa table, and Jagiellonia, with 20 points, has moved up to the 12th position.
