Ford announced its return to Formula 1 shortly before the unveiling of this year’s RB19 livery. The ceremony took place in New York.
Ford has been actively exploring the opportunities presented by the approval of new engine regulations for several months. They assume an increase in the power of the engine’s electric component to nearly 50 percent and the use of fully sustainable fuels.
Chairman Bill Ford said: “This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Ford’s motorsport history, which began when my great-grandfather won his first race, which helped launch our company.
Now, Ford returns to the pinnacle of sport, bringing a rich tradition of innovation, sustainability and electrification to one of the world’s biggest stages.
Ford returns to F1
“Today’s news of Ford entering F1 from 2026 is great for our sport. We are delighted that Ford is joining the great automotive partners already present in F1,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
– Ford is a global brand with a huge heritage in the world of racing and motoring. She sees the tremendous value that our platform provides, engaging more than half a billion fans around the world.”
“Our commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and the introduction of sustainable fuels from 2026 were also the reason for their decision to enter F1. We believe that our sport provides opportunities and reach like no other. We can’t wait to see the Ford logo on the iconic F1 circuits from 2026.”
The partnership with Red Bull will allow Ford to reduce the investment necessary to engage in F1. Red Bull Powertrains has a well-developed technology base in Milton Keynes.
