They are joined by the two best doubles players currently in the country, such as Gonzalo Escobar (43 ATP doubles) and Diego Hidalgo (91 ATP doubles). The experience of both will be essential in this series.
Ecuador already trained in Athens for the duel against Greece for World Group I of the Davis Cup
“The expectation for our team this weekend is to get three points so that we stay in World Group I. We have three singles players who have trained well this week, and from there we have doubles players who are top 75 in the world. Gonzalo and Diego have been the leaders of the team and we have all really enjoyed it this week. Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day of training and from there we start fully as a team”, indicated Andrés Andrade.
Raúl Viver defines Davis Cup team that will face Greece
He added that this week has been a great experience. “It’s my second Davis Cup (it was against Switzerland last year) and I’m learning a lot to be able to win and enjoy a victory with the team. I have always wanted to be in the biggest scenes in tennis, and Davis Cup is one of them. So I’m going to give it everything I have this weekend so that the team has the best chance of winning and leaving Greece with the victory.”
While Álvaro Guillén, who is called up for the first time to join a Davis Cup team, pointed out that “it is my first series, my first time in Davis Cup and the truth is that I am having a great time, enjoying a lot on and off the pitch with the boys and learning a lot from all of them. I feel good, playing well, and we’re going to go all out on Saturday and Sunday to win that series… if we can”.
One day before the start of the series between the Greeks and Ecuadorians, Stéfano Tsipsipas and his brother Petros have not trained either in the private club for the first two days or on the venue of the event. Although it is true that the Tsipsipas brothers appear on the list confirmed by the Greeks, Stefano’s presence is uncertain.
On Friday, February 3 at 06:30 (Ecuador time) the draw for the singles and doubles matches will take place. On Saturday from 05:00 (Ecuadorian time) the first singles match will begin (two are played); and, on Sunday, it will be played from 04:00 a.m., starting with the doubles and continuing with the two singles.
