“Sport-Express”: Asian Football Confederation reacted positively to the transition of Russia
The Asian Football Confederation reacted positively to the transfer of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to the organization. The position became known to Sport-Express.
According to the source, during the meeting of the executive committee of the Asian Confederation, President of the Russian Football Union Alexander Dyukov and Vice President Maxim Mitrofanov received approval for the idea of changing the region for performances. It is noted that in Asia they regard Russian football as a source of new business opportunities and an opportunity to popularize the sport.
On December 30, 2022, the RFU created a working group that should study the issue of moving from UEFA to the Asian Confederation. At the same time, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) opposes Russia’s desire to leave the organization.
On February 28, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
