ROC responded to the position of the UN on the admission of Russian athletes to tournaments

ROC President Pozdnyakov supported the position of the UN on the admission of Russian athletes to tournaments

President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov in his Telegram channel reacted to the position of the UN on the admission of Russian athletes to international tournaments.

Pozdnyakov supported the statement of independent UN human rights experts who called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to provide conditions for the participation of Russians in tournaments. He stressed that the emphasis in the UN appeal is on the fact that domestic athletes should compete without any additional conditions and restrictions.

On 1 February, UN human rights experts welcomed the IOC’s desire to consider allowing athletes from Russia to compete. They felt that it was necessary to ensure that no athlete was discriminated against on the basis of his nationality.

On January 25, the IOC issued a statement on the need to consider the possibility of returning the Russians to international tournaments in a neutral status. It was clarified that only those athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to perform.
