Kostya Tszyu expressed confidence in the admission of Russians to the 2024 Games with a flag and an anthem
Former absolute world boxing champion Kostya Tszyu spoke about the conditions for the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Sports Day by Day.
Tszyu expressed confidence that domestic athletes would go to Paris with a flag and an anthem. “Everything will be fine, I assure you. I absolutely sincerely believe in the full admission of Russian athletes to the Olympic Games! I have no doubts,” he said.
Earlier, the organizers of the 2024 Olympics made a statement about the admission of Russians to the tournament. “As for the presence of Russian and Belarusian athletes at the 2024 Games in Paris, it should be recalled that the qualification system is determined by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee and international federations,” they stressed.
On January 25, the IOC said that they were considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes and their performance under a neutral flag. It was clarified that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules would get a chance to take part in international tournaments.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
