The organizers declared their readiness to accept the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the performance of the Russians. “As for the presence of Russian and Belarusian athletes at the Paris 2024 Games, it should be recalled that the qualification system is determined by the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and international federations,” they stressed.
Earlier, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, supported the participation of Russians in the tournament in a neutral status. “I think this is the time for athletes and they should not be denied the opportunity to compete,” she shared.
On January 25, the IOC said that they were considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was clarified that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules would get a chance to compete in international tournaments.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
