Porto beats Marítimo with Brazilian goals and assumes the vice-leadership of the Portuguese

O Porto beat Marítimo by 2-0, in a game valid for the 18th round of the Portuguese Championship, played this Wednesday. The goals of the match at Estádio dos Barreiros were scored by Brazilians Wendell and Wenderson Galeno.

With the result, Porto completed its eighth unbeaten game in the Portuguese Championship, reaching 42 points, which guarantees the vice-leadership and reduces the gap to leader Benfica by eight. Marítimo, in turn, remains in the penultimate position, with 13 points.

The two teams return to the field this Sunday, for the Portuguese. At 12:30 pm (Brasília time), Marítimo faces Chaves, at Estádio Municipal Engenheiro Manuel Branco Teixeira. Later, at 3 pm, Porto will face Vizela, at Estádio do Dragão.

The game

In the first half, Marítimo had the clearest chances to score, but failed to score. The game was heavily fouled, which hampered the performance of both teams and resulted in the expulsion of Pablo Moreno, from the home team, and Bernardo Folha, from Porto, who still had coach Sérgio Conceição and assistant Vítor Bruno expelled.

In the second stage, Porto came back better and, after just five minutes, the Brazilian left-back Wendell kicked from outside the area and hit the corner, opening the scoring for the visiting team.

Five minutes later, the Brazilian Pepê crossed low into the middle of the area, finding Wenderson Galeno, who fired at the opponent’s goal to extend Porto’s advantage.
