England transfer record broken. What Chelsea have done is absolute heaven

The Enzo Fernandez transfer saga has been one of the most talked about in recent weeks. The Argentine, after an excellent performance at the World Cup in Qatar, immediately found himself in the sights of Chelsea, whom he really wanted to join. The Benfica player even decided not to show up for one of the first training sessions after the international break to force a transfer.

A fight to the end

Although the authorities of the Portuguese club for a long time did not allow the Londoners to start negotiations with Fernandez, rejecting subsequent, increasingly higher offers, the breakthrough came on the last day of the transfer window. According to information provided by Rob Harris from Sky television, Benfica decided to accept Chelsea’s latest offer of £105 million.

That was the clause in Fernandez’s contract. This amount made the 22-year-old midfielder the most expensive player ever signed to the Premier League. So far, this name was worn by the transfer of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa to Manchester City, which was worth 100 million pounds.

Excellent attitude in Portugal

Fernandez is already considered one of the best central midfielders in the world, although he only played half a year in Europe. The Argentine joined Benfica in July 2022, leaving River Plate for €14 million.

The 22-year-old footballer played a total of 29 official matches for the Portuguese club. In that time, he managed to score 4 goals and record 7 assists. At the same time, the team from Estadio da Luz managed to i.a. win their group in the Champions League or work out a 10-point advantage in the league table over Sporting Braga.

From the very beginning, Fernandez will also have a great responsibility on his shoulders. The Argentine is expected to be one of the players leading the Blues up the Premier League table. Chelsea are currently only 10th, 21 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Fernandez is another big signing for Chelsea’s new owners. In the winter, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Joao Felix and Gabriel Slonina joined the team. It was just part of a manpower revolution at the club that began in the summer when Stamford Bridge brought in Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria.

In addition, Chelsea have already secured the signings of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig and Malo Gusto from Lyon. Both will join the team this summer. All this means that the new owners of Chelsea have spent 700 million euros on space transfers in 12 months!
