The ROC made a statement about the sanctions of the Olympic summit against Russia

ROC: sanctions against Russia were not unanimously supported at the Olympic summit

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) made a statement about the sanctions of the Olympic summit held on December 9 against Russia. It is available in the organization’s Telegram channel.

The ROC stressed that the sanctions were not unanimously supported at the event. “The declaration of the Olympic Summit on the issue of the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the international arena very clearly states that the Summit participants unanimously supported this decision. At the same time, the restrictions and sanctions proposed to the participants of the Summit against Russia and Belarus, on the contrary, were not supported by the ROC,” the statement says.

Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reported that the sanctions were adopted unanimously and are not subject to discussion. As a result, the option of admitting Russians to tournaments with the flag, anthem or other identification mark of their country will not be considered.

On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It is clarified that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
