Actor Alec Baldwin has been charged with manslaughter by New Mexico prosecutors for recklessly shooting a cameraman on the set of Rust. Arms consultant Hannah Gutierrez-Reid was also charged with the same charges, according to The Hill.
Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed are charged with two counts of manslaughter of Galina Hutchins while filming in Santa Fe County in 2021. Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reid maintain their innocence. They could face up to 18 months in prison on one count and a five-year prison term on another count.
The assistant director of the picture, David Halls, entered into an agreement with the investigation and pleaded guilty to careless handling of weapons. Under the terms of the agreement, he will receive a suspended sentence and six months’ probation. Rust director Joel Sauce will not be charged.
The tragedy on the set occurred on October 22, 2021. During the shooting of one of the scenes of the western “Rust”, the gun in the hands of Baldwin went off and the bullet hit the cameraman Galina Hutchins and director Joel Sauce. Hutchins died at the scene, the man was injured.
