This Tuesday, Newcastle beat Southampton for the second leg of the semi-finals of the English League Cup by 2-1 and advanced to the decision. Sean Longstaff scored both of the home team’s goals and Che Adams pulled one back. Bruno Guimarães, who had been having a good start, was expelled in the final stretch. In the first leg, Newcastle had already defeated the opponent by 1 to 0.

The second semifinal, between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, will be decided on Wednesday, at 5 pm (Brasília time). In the first game, Manchester won 3-0 away from home.

For the English Championship, Newcastle returns to the field this Saturday to face West Ham, at home, at 2:30 pm. Southampton, last placed in the national tournament, will visit Brentford at 12 noon on the same day.

Five minutes into the game, midfielder Sean Longstaff opened the scoring for Newcastle. Despite the comfortable situation, the hosts did not take their foot off the accelerator and scored the second, also with Longstaff, at 21. Still in the first half, Che Adams reduced to Southampton, at 29.

In the second stage, with the vacancy practically defined in favor of Newcastle, the rhythm of the game dropped and the chances of goals became rarer. Brazilian Bruno Guimarães was expelled in the 38th minute of the final stage. Despite pressure from Southampton, the home team held on to the result and secured their spot in the final.

Also on Tuesday, Birmingham and Blackburn Rovers faced each other in the fourth round of the FA Cup. In overtime, Blackburn won 1-0, with an own goal by Auston Trusty, and are qualified for the next phase.
