Officially: He played sensational at the World Cup. Now he’s in LaLiga

The last day of the winter transfer window brought Real Valladolid fans a very pleasant gift. Selim Amallah, one of the brightest figures of the Moroccan national team during the World Cup in Qatar, became the new player of the team fighting for relegation in La Liga.

Last minute transfer

The winter transfer window, also due to its length, is more intense for clubs across Europe. As a result, many contracts are signed on the last day. It was similar in the case of Selim Amallah, who was not sure until the very end whether he would be able to escape Standard Liege.

Ultimately, after the services of the attacking midfielder, he decided to report to Real Valladolid. The Spanish club, which is still owned by the legendary Ronaldo, spent around one million euros on the Moroccan. This amount is not excessive due to the player’s previous contract, which expired at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

Escape from problems

For the 26-year-old footballer himself, the move to the seventeenth La Liga team is a career saver. When, after the World Cup in Qatar, the midfielder admitted that he had no intention of staying at Standard Liège any longer, the Belgian club authorities decided to transfer him to the reserves, where he was to wait until his contract expired in June 2023.

The agent of the Moroccan did everything to bring about the transfer of Amallah in the winter. Already in December there was talk of great interest from clubs from the leading European leagues, which, however, thought about hiring a midfielder only in the summer. Ultimately, Real Valladolid made a different decision.

In the 2022/2023 season, Selim Amallah played in just nine matches for Standard Liège. However, he was a standout character in those games, scoring four goals and registering one assist. Now more responsibility rests on his shoulders. The Moroccan will have to lead his new team in the fight for relegation in La Liga. Exactly halfway through the competition, Valladolid is just a point ahead of Cadiz, 18th in the table.
