Fernando Santos has officially been the head coach of the Polish national team since January 24. So far, one of the main topics around the new coach is the composition of his staff, more specifically the Polish part. According to the latest information, Ukasz Piszczek and Tomasz Kaczmarek are to become assistants to Fernando Santos. Earlier, there were candidates for Grzegorz Mielcarski or Andrzej Juskowiak, who speak Portuguese and could help in communication.

What can you expect from Fernando Santos’ work? “The players will go to the match with great humility”

Grzegorz Mielcarski spoke with the program “Mission Futbol”. The former Polish representative revealed what we can expect from Fernando Santos’ work in the team. “We can expect players to go into every game with great humility. We can expect that they will be maximally focused for each training session. Fernando Santos himself has a lot of humility. He will probably not allow frequent visits to hotels or visiting and dealing with other matters on the occasion of national team matches, he said.

Mielcarski also referred to the topic of whether he would be in the staff of the new coach of the Poles. – I did not see coach Santos when he came to Poland. We only talked by phone and he dropped this topic somewhere between the words, but that does not mean that I will be that collaborator – added the CANAL+ expert. Earlier, the former football player admitted that he was the secretary general of PZPN. – Then it was said that this topic will come back again. I’m taking it very lightly,” he said.

Grzegorz Mielcarski knows Fernando Santos from the times of working together at FC Porto, where in the 1998/1999 season he won the Portuguese championship and the national cup. Later, the gentlemen also met at AEK Athens in the 2001/2002 season, which ended with winning the Greek Cup.
