The IOC called accusations of corruption by Ukraine slander
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has responded to allegations of corruption by Ukraine. The words of representatives of the organization leads Reuters.
The IOC called these words slander. “The IOC rejects this and other slanderous statements in the strongest possible terms. They cannot serve as a basis for any constructive discussion,” the organization said in a statement.
Earlier, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak accused the IOC and its head Thomas Bach of encouraging Russia’s actions, as well as of bribery on its part. This is how he reacted to the IOC statement about the possible individual admission to the competition of Russian and Belarusian athletes for selection for the 2024 Olympic Games. It was reported that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, many international sports organizations stopped allowing Russians to compete on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, such as football, hockey, athletics and figure skating, athletes are completely suspended. In motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, Russians continue to perform in a neutral status.
