For a long time, the media wrote about the possible departure of Weston McKennie from Juventus. However, no club was seriously interested. Those willing were deterred by the American’s rather high demands on salaries. The situation changed the offer from Leeds United, to which the player and the club agreed.
McKennie will be playing in the Premier League
The 24-year-old midfielder has joined Leeds United on a six-month loan. Juventus will earn €1.2 million from the deal. The “Peacocks” secured an option to buy the player for 33 million euros plus 7 million euros in bonuses. Leeds will have an obligation to buy McKennie once the terms of the deal are met.
The American joined Juventus in 2020 from Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen. First, he was loaned to Turin, but then the “Old Lady” decided to sign him on a long-term contract. McKennie has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season (Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League), scoring three goals and providing two assists.
With the arrival of McKennie, the group of American footballers at Leeds United is growing. The Peacock line-up also includes Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson. All three represented the US at the World Cup in Qatar. The United States reached the 1/8 finals. Leeds is coached by American Jesse Marsch.
McKennie could make his debut in the new colors on Sunday when Leeds face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. He will play with the number 28 on his shirt.
Weston McKennie is valued at €21m by Transfermarkt.
