Enner Valencia: You have to look for a winning coach. We are no longer here to go and participate, but to go win

Enner Valencia gave this Monday the first interview to a national media after Ecuador’s participation in the World Cup-2022 last November. The National Team’s goalscorer shared his feelings about the match against Senegal, about his knee injury -which in reality had been more serious than what he was diagnosed with in Qatar- and referred to the choice of Gustavo Alfaro’s replacement in the bench with a view to World Cup-2026 qualifying round.

Interviewed in mark 90Valencia has spoken of how “strange” the match against Senegal was, acknowledging that “we never met in that match”.

“It was a strange game because we had trained in one way and they (Senegals) came out to play in another, so from the beginning we were surprised. If they realized, the forward part couldn’t control the defenders, they came out playing very easy for us and it became difficult for us. They came at us with easy plays from behind and they reached the goal; They came to us in the first half at least five or six times and clearly. At one point I think our nerves also got the best of knowing that losing that game we could be left out, and it looked very strange. The attitude that we had been showing in previous games was not seen and we could not show it with Senegal at any time, ”he explained.

“We found the tie, but it was on a stopped ball, it was not due to a play created. We never met in that match,” he added.
