Olympic champion Vasilyev spoke out against the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games in a neutral status
Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Dmitry Vasiliev spoke out against the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in a neutral status. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the athlete, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) should declare a boycott of the competition if the country’s representatives are deprived of the flag and anthem. He also called on the head of the organization, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, to act more decisively. “In general, it is necessary to somehow defend the position of Russia and athletes in general. Pozdnyakov should be much tougher than he was before today, ”Vasilyev considered.
The ex-biathlete added that he had always been on the side of the athletes and proceeded from the fact that you need to compete at every opportunity. “Today, this is a completely different situation, and in no case should you go to the Olympics on these conditions – without an anthem and a flag,” Vasilyev said.
Earlier on January 30, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a new statement about the return of Russian athletes to tournaments. The organization considered that the concept of the Russians performing under a neutral flag has proven itself well and is now being discussed by the members of the committee.
