Ghanaian striker Iñaki Williams missed his first La Liga game in over six years when he was dropped from the squad for the clash Athletic Bilbao against Celta de Vigo this Sunday.
Williams has played in all of Athletic’s La Liga games since 20 April 2016, allowing him to reach 251 consecutive appearances in the Spanish top flight.
The player became the record holder in consecutive games played for the Spanish Championship in October 2021, when he made his 203rd appearance in a row, thus surpassing former Real Sociedad defender Juan Antonio Larrañaga.
“Iñaki Williams is off the list due to physical problems,” explained Athletic on Twitter.
“The incredible sequence of consecutive games played by Iñaki Williams in La Liga ends. From April 20, 2016 to January 22, 2023. 251 games in a row”, added the Basque club on the social network.
