Svetlana Zhurova doubted the possibility of Russia’s participation in the Asian Games without a flag
Olympic champion in speed skating and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova announced the possible refusal of the Russian team to participate in the Asian Games. Her words are quoted by Gazeta.ru.
Zhurova expressed doubt that athletes should compete in the tournament if the flag and anthem are banned. “If Asia allows us to do this, then, of course, it’s great, we are happy and welcome this proposal,” she added.

On January 26, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games. The competition will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China. OCA Acting President Randhir Singh announced the development of a special quota system for Russian athletes, thanks to which they will be able to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis, boxing, MMA and chess, the Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
