British scientists have found that swimming in open water can cause pulmonary edema
British scientists have revealed the dangers of swimming in open water. This is reported by WebMD.
British cardiologist James Oldman said that the study found a link between open water swimming and pulmonary edema, in which fluid accumulates in the air sacs of the body. Scientists define this condition as immersion pulmonary edema, or edema caused by swimming.
Scientists have found that one to two percent of open water swimmers may suffer from sudden pulmonary edema during a swim. It is noted that risk factors are older age, long distances, cold water, female sex, high blood pressure and heart disease. In this case, the occurrence of edema does not depend on the physical form of the person.
Previously, British scientists said that an additional six-minute intense training improves brain function and helps a person to better cope with cognitive processes. Replacing intense activity with light activity or inactivity, on the contrary, has a negative impact.
